May Blooms in Rose // The Rose de Mai Collection
We arrived at the fields in the early morning and gazed upon row after row of delicate pink blossoms winding through the valley. It was May in Provence, that special time of year when Rose de Mai blooms for five weeks only. The magic of spring expressed not only in the colorful, vibrant blooms, but also in the sweet, intoxicating smell of these flowers used for centuries in fragrance.
Still carefully cultivated by hand, as they have been for generations, each bloom is picked early in the morning, and only flowers that are fresh and in full bloom are chosen to be placed into the harvest basket that is sent a few kilometers down the road to the fragrance house.
